Cliona O'CarrollFriend of Jeremy and Máirín

I worked as a colleague of Máirín’s in Toronto for one semester in 2002, and there I met Jeremy and was welcomed into his home with his characteristic gentle warmth. It was an honour to know them both, as they modelled such a loving and present friendship, and joy in everyday life. I was so happy to meet them in Cork and around Ireland when they returned on visits and to live, and to soak up Jeremy’s generosity and observe him observing the world. I loved to wait for the gentle, wise comments that would come from those observations (often with a spark of wit/joy/humour). Although we didn’t see much of each other, it’s a testament to the impact that Jeremy had on all around him that all of my family (my parents, sister and partner) were so fond of Jeremy from their infrequent meetings. My sincere condolences to his family. (Should any of you wish to get in contact for any reason, you can find me in UCC where I work)
