Tony was a very sweet man and an inspiration to me during my adolescence. At a time when the world seemed uncaring, he was always willing to cheerfully and meaningfully have long chats after guitar lessons and gladly any other time I’d call to the door. And what a man for the guitar! I wished to have seen him in the past 2 decades since. My thoughts are with the family.

I’ve known Tony (Bop) Byrne since the 1960s. I would like to remember him now for the countless hours we played guitar together, joked together and above all laughed together. Many mutual friends and I knew him as Bop, which stemmed from a ‘bebop’ hairstyle he had when in school. Bop was well known for his guitar playing, his wit and his unique way of telling a joke or a yarn. If one decided to head to O’Reilly’s pub for a pint and see if he was there all you had to do was to follow the laughter.
Here’s to the good times Bop.

I remember going to Tony for guitar lessons between 2006-2008 at his house in Tritonville Road. Taught me so much on guitar, helped me learn songs for my music practical for the JC and gave me the inspiration to practice for hours every day. I always meant to go knock for him as the years went by but then his house was sold and I always wondered where he went and how he was doing. Have a lot of fond memories of him and am sad to hear of his passing. RIP Tony
