Dear Mary, Ian, and Jana,

Martin’s passing is a most sad and shocking blow indeed. He was a dear colleague and friend for many years, with whom I enjoyed exchanging visits on both sides of the Atlantic, which often involved salmonid stream conferences and field trips, as well as pleasant meals and discussions in our homes. Fellow biologists and I hold tremendous appreciation for Martin’s many valuable contributions to our profession and especially to the protection and restoration of trout and salmon streams. For me, personally, his shared enthusiasm for angling and his Christmas telephone calls meant much.

Almut joins me in extending our condolences.
