18 years ago I got my first Irish Wolfhound. I was new to the breed. But even then I knew the name of Betty Murphy. Later, her book about the Irish wolfhound, translated into Russian, became my bible. 16 years have passed and I was fortunate enough to meet Betty in person. Our communication was not long, but it didn’t take much time to see a bright soul. I remember the warmth and kindness that came from her. And of course her unconditional love for Ireland and the Irish Wolfhound. I so wanted to meet her again, to learn from her to understand the Irish wolfhounds. Try to absorb at least a grain of her vast knowledge. It hurts so much that it won’t come true.
This is an irreparable loss for all of us, those who read her books and publications on fb, those who knew her personally, those were her close friends and of course for her family. Thank you Betty Murphy for being with us. Thank you for everything you have done for our beloved breed. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and your love for Ireland with us. We will never forget you. And every time when we will open your books, we will tell you thanks

The first word that comes to mind when thinking about Betty is “Thank You”. Thank you for celebrating and protecting the Irish Wolfhound all these years, through Carrokeel, the IWCI, the FIWC, and many publications.
Thank you for sharing a mountain of knowledge, for giving access to the archives of Cpt Graham, for mentoring the enthusiasts of this noble Irish breed, with humility and generosity.
Thank you for all your time at Carrokeel Lodge, and the delicious apple pies. Thank you for the warm and cheerful welcome, in pure Irish tradition. Thank you for the life lessons, and the trust received. Thank you for our friendship. Thank you for the kindness, the encouragement, the hope for tomorrow.
The blue tent and CastletownHouse will never be the same without you.
Sincere condolences to the dear family and friends.
Rest in peace Betty, I’ll miss you so much. Much love, as we always said.
