Perkins, Alfred. (Dublin 15) June 2nd, 2020 (suddenly), beloved husband of Patricia and adored father of Terri and Mark and father in law of Grant and Karine. Sadly missed by his loving family, sisters Evelyn and Georgina, grandchildren Emilie and Charlie, brother-in-law Joe, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. R.I.P.

Due to Government advice and restrictions regarding public gatherings and to protect our most vulnerable family members and our friends, a private family funeral will take place.

We look forward to meeting everyone at a Celebration of Alfie’s Life at a later date.

<p>I was sorry to hear of Alf’s passing. I saw his obituary recently in the Zoological Society’s Annual Report We served together on the Zoo Volunteer programme many years ago. He was always helpful and considerate colleague, I remember in particular the children’s Christmas parties.</p>

Sunday mornings in the D.C. with discussions on the latest test match, past times in the zoo and his exploits in choral societies were a highlight of the day. I spent many happy and informative hours with him in the Discovery Center. I learned so much him, I had and always will have so much respect and fond feelings for him. He was a lovely and gentle man. <p>Very sorry to say goodbye to a man who had the biggest heart. There was never enough that he could do for you, his kindness was never ending. It is hard to think that he will not be there when next we go to Ireland – he was ‘the host with most’ and epitomised Irish hospitality at it’s best. Always full of hugs to give & a smile that took up the room. Lisa & Sinead will remember fondly their trips to Dublin Zoo with Alfie where you could see his face light up with joy at seeing the animals there. Ken & Irene shared his love of Speedway and remember fondly many family parties that went long into the night. Our love & thoughts are with you all and we hope that we may be able to join you soon to celebrate his life. We will raise a glass to him today. X</p>

<p>I met Alf over 30 years ago on his very first volunteer duty at Dublin Zoo & he settled in so quickly to become a very dedicated part of our Zoo family. He particularly loved the Discovery Centre sharing stories with visitors, arranging photos with biofacts, & mentoring new volunteers who joined after him. He would always be first in line to offer help with anything being organised for those with any special needs & brought his Belarusian friends & Chernobyl children to forge a happy Dublin Zoo visit to their memories of their time in Ireland. He walked his own path without trampling on others as he moved. He was a kind, generous, thoroughly decent human being who I am happy to have called my friend & who will be much missed. Deepest condolences to Pat & all his family & friends grieving at this sad time.</p>
